Exploratory Surgery

Exploratory surgery is a procedure which purpose is to investigate an area suspected of disease when diagnosis is not possible through non-invasive technique. Vertical root fracture is one of phenomenon dentist mostly overlooked because it is not detectable with naked eyes. The picture below shows a tooth with vertical root fracture after the gum is being raised.​

A blue dye is used to stain the root so that the fracture line can be seen clearly. There is not much bleeding from the gum because the procedure is carried out with laser.
