LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY

Low level laser therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, is found to accelerate wound healing and reduce pain on affected site. It is very common now in western countries to utilize laser for quick healing and controlling pain. Even sports athletes have their own laser device so that they can perform laser therapy on themselves when they are injured. Laser therapy works by stimulating production of good enzymes from mitochondria that involves in wound recovery and anti-inflammation.

The following picture shows injuries suffered by Dr Su when he was trying to save his cats from an aggressive wild cat. The flesh was torn apart and the fang was bitten into his bone. Medical doctor said unable to suture because it was too jagged and told him that he has to restrain from working and rest for 2 months because of the deep injury into bone. Other than that, he has to expect that there will be big swelling on his finger.

Knowing what laser therapy can achieve, Dr Su performed laser therapy on himself. The following pictures show the condition of the wound the next day and subsequent days. As you can see, the wound has closed up and the jagged edges were barely visible. No severe swelling even for the subsequent days.

In fact, the whole injury healed in just 1 week, instead of 2 months. No severe swelling, movement of finger wasn't affected. That, is the effect of laser therapy. Other than using for fast wound recovery, laser therapy also can be used to treat conditions such as myofacial pain, temporomandibular joint disorder, and trigeminal neuralgia.
