LASER GINGIVECTOMY

Gingivectomy is a dental procedure to remove a portion of the gum for restorative, braces brackets bonding, or aesthetic purposes. The picture below shows a decayed tooth with the gum growing into cavity because the patient has been delaying seeing dentist for treatment. It is not possible to put a filling right on top that growth because dentist will not be able to remove the decay completely and there will be leakage, resulting in more complications.

The traditional way of doing it would be using scalpel to cut and remove it. But the disadvantage would be bleeding, and dentist won't be able to restore the tooth with permanent filling. Dentist will have to fill the cavity with a temporary filling, and patient has to come back on another visit for permanent filling. By using laser to remove the gum, there will be no bleeding, and dentist can fill up the tooth immediately with permanent filling.

The picture above shows the condition of the gum after being removed using laser. We can appreciate that there is no bleeding at all and will not affect the dentist for placing permanent filling. The picture below shows the permanent filling done by Dr Su.
